By-Law Changes Ready to Go for 2016

on Mon, 03/14/2016 - 14:07

With the 2016 Annual General Meeting coming up fast we have a number of By-Law changes being proposed to be voted on at the meeting. These have all gone out to the membership a little over two weeks ago, but for convenience here they are again.

These changes merely clear up a number of peculiarities and inconsistencies in the existing By-Laws. As you will see, none of them affect Recyclore's purpose, methods, structure, procedures or protocols in any meaningful way. Really they just bring the By-Laws in line with how Recyclore operates and has been operating for years.

OK, admittedly this

Google Geeking our Website

on Mon, 11/30/2015 - 14:49

Does obsessing on analytics mean you're anal-retentive?

So we created a new website and made some changes (which we hope were improvements), was it worth the effort? Our expectations were pretty realistic since we know we're not offering Game of Thrones spoilers or anything like that, but it has taken time and effort, so it would be nice if it did something. Time to dive into Google Analytics and find out.

This was mostly written at the beginning of Dec and should have been published then, but then Christmas came along and things got crazy.

Time change, darkness, lights & safety

on Wed, 11/04/2015 - 11:36

Hans on the Bike wrote this week about the "Lights on Bikes" Citizens for Safe Cycling tradition of giving out (900!) bike lights this last weekend coinciding with the time change. This shines a light on safe cycling to and especially from work when sundown is so early. I usually pack bright white front and red back lights plus put both front and back lights on my helmet as a backup.

The new Road Safety Rules concerning bicycling in Ontario passed in September of 2015 require all bikes to have lights or front and rear reflectors or face fines of $110. Cyclists in the NCR, especially

New Work Stations

on Mon, 09/21/2015 - 11:16

Thanks to the efforts of Ray, Darcy and Peter the new work stations are coming along very nicely.

Each of the 5 work stations will have an identical, full basic set of bike tools. Each tool will be colour coded for that station and it's proper position indicated by a silhouette outline on the board. There will also be a main tool board with all of the more specialized tools that are used less often.

Our hope is that everyone cooperates in making sure every work station is neat and organized at the beginning and end of every volunteers shift.

Recyclore New Board of Directors

on Tue, 09/01/2015 - 14:44

On June 9th Recyclore held it's Annual General Meeting. There was the usual slate of administrative trivia such as reviewing past minutes and the like, but the main issues were to elect a new Board of Directors and to check on the finances.

As of June 9th, 2015 Recyclore's new Board of Directors is

Build your own bike patch kit

on Sun, 08/30/2015 - 13:23

I enjoy good reviews that save me time finding a high value produce that will provide good value and last. Occasionally I use TheSweetHome for home equipement and TheWirecutter sites for technology reviews. I see that they just updated the "Build a Bike Patch & Flat Kit" this week. Most of the recommended items are available from US sites like Amazon.com but many are available from Amazon.ca and locally from MEC and other local bike shops like Bushtukah or others.

This article is a great start but to find local parts I usually go to MEC in Westboro for the cheapest new parts. I like the

The new amendments to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (HTA) have been passed and proclaimed and are effective Sept 1st. You have heard about the one meter passing requirement:
